Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Silky Cream Unboxing & Review

Hey everyone! I recently received the Clarins Voxbox from Influenster and I was so excited to open it up! I'll be reviewing it for you as well as sharing my honest thoughts and opinions.

This is how the box was packaged and I thought they added a cute touch by using white and red which are the colours on the Canadian flag.

Overview & Claims
When you open up the box, your receive an information card telling you about the product inside and you also get the actual product itself. They are introducing the new Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Silky Cream which is targeted to those with normal to dry skin. They sent me a tube that contains 15 ml of product which was a little bit hard to squeeze out if I'm being honest. It does smell fragranced when you are applying it onto your face which may bother some people but it wasn't an issue for me because the scent goes away rather quickly. The cream feels velvety to the touch and blends into the skin wonderfully.

Clarins uses the organic leaf of life extract which is a powerful natural hydration activator which mainly helps boost the skin's hyaluronic acid production. It will in turn, help plump the skin and have it looking more radiant. There is also an Anti-Pollution Complex that helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of pollution from both indoors and outdoors. This complex can be found all throughout the Hydra-Essentiel line with the exception of the Bi-Phase Serum.

Price & Where To Buy
This retails for $46 for 50 ml of product in a jar and you can purchase it either at: The Hudson's Bay, on the Clarins website, at Sephora, at Shoppers Drug Mart's Beauty Boutique, etc.
Update: It now retails for $48-49.

My Thoughts & Should You Buy?
This product does not have SPF and I wish that it did. However, it is dermatologist tested, it is non-comedogenic, I did not breakout from using it and there was no leftover residue apparent on the skin. Even though I have oily skin and this product does not target oily skin types, I wasn't overly oily at the end of the day to my surprise. I feel like this would be best for people with normal skin though. It feels great and lightweight on the skin. I do think that since this product adds back moisture into your skin, this still could be used in the spring and summer months because most people (including myself,) like a much heavier cream in the winter time.

If you are sensitive to scents then don't purchase this product because there is a scent to it. Also, the full size comes in a jar and some people think that it is unsanitary but I prefer it because it is easier to use up every last drop of product. It is an added bonus that it looks great on your vanity counter!

GLAMGLOW POWERMUD vs GLAMGLOW FLASHMUD

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to compare two masks by GLAMGLOW that I am currently using in rotation. They are: the GLAMGLOW POWERMUD Dual Cleanse Treatment and the GLAMGLOW FLASHMUD Brightening Treatment. I am putting both to the test and wanted to share my thoughts on them with you!

POWERMUD
This is a detox mask that will help: cleanse, detox, nourish, purify and renew your skin. It is suggested to use post-workout to detox your skin and purify those pores. This mask is targeted to those who suffer from: dryness, oiliness, dullness and uneven skin texture. It is rather grainy in texture because it is meant to be used as a mask and then when you are washing it off, you are supposed to wet your face while using circular motions which helps exfoliate your skin. This mask dries rather quickly and I leave it on for 10-15 minutes. It is encouraged to use this as a full face mask 1-2 times a week.

FLASHMUD
This is a brightening mask that will help: correct, brighten and let the skin look more luminous. It will also even out the tone and make the skin appear more radiant. If you have: dark spots, an uneven skin tone, dullness or an uneven skin texture, this would be a great mask for you to test out! Same thing as the POWERMUD, there are tiny granules because it acts as a mask as well as an exfoliator and you want to wash it off using the same method as I previously mentioned.

I loved the scent of this product, it went on a lot smoother than the POWERMUD did, it is easier to see where exactly you have applied it onto your face and any spots that you may have missed. I used more product though to get an even application, the consistency reminded me of hybrid between POWERMUD due to its gritty texture and YOUTHMUD because of the larger flakes contained inside the formula. For best results, use this 2-3 times per week and use it to cover your entire face.

Thoughts & Winner
It would definitely have to be the FLASHMUD by a long shot! When it dries, it doesn't crack like other facial masks do to a point where if you laugh or try to speak, it hurts. This mask doesn't even feel like you have one on and it is extremely lightweight even after it has dried on the skin. I kept touching my face to see if it was dried because I didn't feel like there was a mask on my face! It did an excellent job at exfoliating my face and my face felt very soft after using it!

There are 6 masks in total and I have tried 4 of them. The mask retails on the Sephora website for $79 but you can also purchase the travel size for $24 if you to try it out. I purchased both of my masks at the Estee Lauder Warehouse Sale for a discounted price.

I do have a dedicated post where I go more into depth about the brand in-general. The post is titled, 'All About GLAMGLOW.'

The Body Shop's Elderflower Eye Gel Review

Hey everyone! I received a 50% off coupon recently and I went into my local Body Shop store to take advantage of this awesome deal! I decided to purchase the Elderflower Eye Gel because I thought that it could be a potential dupe for the expensive Peter Thomas Roth Eye Patches.

Overview & Price
It retails at The Body Shop for $12 and you are getting 15 ml or 14 grams of product. It does come in a little container which I appreciate because I can see how much product is left inside the clear pot. I also like that there is no fragrance because your skincare shouldn't smell good or have any fragrance in it really. This claims to be both cooling as well as refreshing.

Dupe for PTR Eye Patches?
I have tried the Peter Thomas Roth 24k Gold Eye Patches before and they retail for $92 for 60 patches which gives you 30 uses in total. This product did give my under eyes a cooling sensation but it did not last as long. I used my ring finger to apply this under my eyes and perhaps a small cold metal spoon would be best. I also want to try to store it in the fridge next time I decide to use it. I wouldn't say that this is necessarily a dupe because I felt that the PTR Eye Patches perform better overall. This eye gel is not the same consistency and the method of application is different.

Final Thoughts
I feel like a little bit of this product goes a long way and be careful not to apply too much. Some reviews said that their under eye area felt sticky but they either didn't let it sink into the skin long enough or they applied too much product. It wasn't sticky at all on my face and it wasn't flaky either. If you are on a budget then definitely pick this up rather than the PTR Eye Patches. I don't have dark circles so I can't speak to that. I love that there is no fragrance to it and I will continue to test it out!

I also made sure to get the new Love Your Body card because they have a brand new card and there are more member perks!

I really do like Elderflower and I once had it in a mojito which tasted delicious! If you want to find out more about it, I do have an entire blog post on it where I speak about the Benefits of Elderflower.

4 Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primers Tested & Reviewed

Hey everyone! I attended The Estee Lauder Warehouse Sale a few weeks back and I ended up purchasing 3 of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primers. I also had a sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil that I also decided to include in this post.

Price & Where To Buy
Since I was at a Warehouse Sale, I paid $4 for each primer and they were all 0.50 fl oz/15 ml. If you go on the Sephora web site, that size which is the travel size, retails for $20. There is the larger size which is the standard size that sells for $50 and you get 1 oz/30 ml of product inside. Now for the Primer Oil, it goes for $50 and you receive 1 oz of product. You can also purchase the Smashbox Primers at Ulta

The 4 Different Primers
Unfortunately, I can't speak about all of the Smashbox primers because for this simple fact: there are too many of them and I don't own them all! I will be speaking on the 4 that I currently have and I will be giving you a breakdown of each one.

(Bottom to top: Pore Minimizer, Primer Light, Iconic Primer & Primer Oil)

Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer - I had actually used this primer a long time ago in the past and I remembered liking it. It has a silicone kind of texture to it and it glides on easily as well as effortlessly.

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Light - It does not have a silicone feeling to it and I would describe it more like a lotion that absorbs into the skin right away. If you don't like the silicone feel of the Iconic Primer, then this one may be for you!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer Pore Minimizing - I really do like The Porefessional by Benefit which helps to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, and I am all about any pore minimizing product that I come across! The formula is not purple unlike the bottle and it did minimize the appearance of my pores.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil - I was very skeptical of using this product because I have very oily skin and was very apprehensive about adding more oil onto my skin. This may take some getting used to and you may have to see which way to apply it works best for you. This is a versatile product that can also be used as: a highlighter, on your cuticles, on split ends or even on your elbows! I wish that there was a better way to dispense this product because it can get rather messy. It is definitely the most expensive out of the 4 primers.

How They Wore On My Skin
All of these primers went onto my skin effortlessly and simply glided onto my face helping create a great base for the rest of my makeup. Just make sure not to use too much of any of them or else, they will peel off and your makeup will not lay nicely on your skin. It will look like a reptile that is shedding.

Would I Recommend?
Yes, I definitely would recommend these and the great thing about the 4 primers is that there is something for everyone. There is also a green primer that would be great for someone with a lot of redness that they want some coverage for. Also, the 3 foundation primers that I purchased at The Estee Lauder Warehouse Sale are oil-free which is a great plus. I think they are all great depending on which issue I'm facing on a given day and I'm glad to add them to my collection!

Marcelle BB Cream in Fair | Review & Swatches

Hey everyone! I have been out of my BB Cream for awhile and I really wanted to pick-up a new one because Summer is right around the corner! I decided to purchase the Marcelle BB Cream in Fair.

Price & Shade Selection
Marcelle is a Canadian Company and I purchased mine online from Shoppers Drug Mart's Beauty Boutique. It retails for $22.95 CAD for 1.5 oz/45 ml of product. As far as the shade selection, there are only 5 shades to choose from. I picked mine up in the shade fair and it doesn't have a pink undertone which I definitely appreciate. I would say that you can build it up to a medium coverage on the skin. It isn't full coverage because my freckles were still peaking through with two layers on the skin.

(How it looks like in natural daylight before being blended into the skin)

(After it's blended into the skin)

Pros/Cons
An obvious pro to this product is that it is an 8-in-1 product that does 8 different things in 1 product. Those include: evening out your skin tone, offers immediate and long-term hydrating benefits, protects from premature aging and environmental stresses, promotes skin regeneration, controls shine, soothes and calms, reduces the appearance of imperfections and lastly, provides anti-dull radiant complexion. Some more pros are: it is 100% perfume free, it is for all skin types, it's hypoallergenic, it is Dermatologist tested and it even has the Canadian Dermatology Association logo on the box. Another pro is that you are getting more than 1 oz of product which is generous and should last me awhile.

One immediate con that comes to my mind is that there is no sunscreen inside the formula. That may be a pro to some, but I like using BB Creams in the Summer and my preference is that they have it inside to help protect my face from the potential harmful UV rays. Another con is that there are only 5 shades which is not a wide range at all. I feel like BB Creams in general really need to cater to more skin tones and branch out more.

Should You Purchase?
This is a versatile product because you can just apply the BB Cream all over your face or you can apply a layer of it before you go in with your foundation (which I normally tend to do.) This product felt very lightweight on the face, did not have a strong scent or any that I could detect for that matter, it layered well on the skin and was not as full coverage as my Clarins BB Cream, but this was not cakey on the face at all. I wouldn't just apply this product onto my face and walk out of the house because it has no SPF. This is a great lightweight product for people with dry skin that want a natural look. It isn't my favourite BB Cream but it works well and I will continue to use up the tube. I like that pump is at the bottom and you can really use up every last drop of product.

Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation Review

Hey everyone! I recently picked up the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation from the L'Oreal Warehouse Sale and I wanted to put it to the test!

Packaging
This is a nice sleek bottle with a clear top and a pump which I really do appreciate. I do love the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation but I hate that you have to pour it out of the bottle and that it doesn't come with a pump. Of course you can add one on but it's much easier it the product already comes with a pump. There is a clear cap that protects the blue pump which is both good and bad. It is great because it works well with the design but isn't so good when you can see the leftover foundation all on the cap as well as on the pump.

The Claims
This claims to be for all skin types and that it is medium to full coverage. It also says that it gives an all-day, flawless coverage and gives you better looking skin in 3 weeks. It is described to be an oil-free, long wearing foundation that helps your skin look better the longer that you actually wear this foundation. Inside the formula is an antioxidant called Actyl C which is a more stable form of Vitamin C because most of us know that Vitamin C in topical forms is not very stable. It is supposed to help reduce the appearance of any: redness, dullness, spots and bumps on the face. Overall, using this foundation will give you brighter, more even and smoother skin.

Shades & Price
I purchased mine in the shade Classic Ivory #20. There are 14 shades to choose from but as for the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation, there are 24 shades in total. Furthermore, the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation offers 16 shades and the Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick has a total of 8 shades. Since I purchased my bottle at a Warehouse Sale, I only paid $4 for it. It retails on the Ulta web site for $11.99 USD and you are getting 30 ml or 1 fl oz of product.

How It Wore Throughout The Day
Originally, I applied 2 layers of the foundation onto my skin and used about 5 pumps in total. I used a beauty blender to apply it and I felt that the sponge absorbed a lot of the product. I felt like the shade that I purchased (Classic Ivory) had too much of a pink undertone and wasn't a great match. I will use this as a mix-in foundation in the future. However, I immediately liked how it looked on my skin and I agree that it is a buildable coverage that you can build up until you get a full coverage look. It has a satin finish and felt comfortable on the skin as time went on.

It wasn't the most lightweight foundation that I have ever used though and looked slightly cakey on the skin before setting it with powder. I was very oily after 6 hours of wear but I blotted and the foundation wasn't breaking up on my face. After the night wore on, I realized that the foundation didn't have much of a pink undertone comparing to when I first put it on.

Is It Worth The Money?
I think that next time I wear it, I would definitely apply it with a brush rather than a sponge and I feel like the pros outweigh the cons. I definitely feel like this foundation would be too thick and wouldn't wear well on people with dry skin. Overall, I thought it held up and that it wasn't a bad foundation to use. I will definitely be using it again in the future and you can't beat the price that I paid for it!

You can feel free to check out my Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation Review to see how that one compared to this one!

Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Foundation in 01 Bisque | Review & Swatches

Hey everyone! I had asked my Mom to bring this foundation back from Florida because I have been wanting to try it for a long time and I can't get it here in Canada! I'm referring to the Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Foundation and mine is in a bottle but online, I noticed that it is in a squeezable tube. I believe that they just repackaged it but I'm not sure if the formula is the same.

Where To Buy, Price & Shade Selection
You can buy Sonia Kashuk products at Target and this retails for $12.99 USD for 0.57 fl oz/17 ml which is not a lot of product for a foundation. Usually, you get 1 fl oz which is 30 ml of product and that is the standard size of a foundation when speaking about the weight generally. There are only 6 shades to choose from which isn't ideal and that is quite disappointing.

Claims/Pros & Cons
This claims to be a buildable foundation with medium to full coverage. It also claims to be for all skin types. This is a luminizing foundation which helps to illuminate the skin and you are getting a dewy look when you apply this onto your face. I really liked that it came with a pump. The packaging is very sleek and it feels lightweight when you hold it in your hand. A con is that the black cap and black pump will get very dirty in no time from the foundation but that is something that is inevitable.

How It Wore Throughout The Day
I felt that it emphasized some texture that I had on my skin and did a terrible job when applied over my pimple (both are around my bottom lip as you can see in the photo down below.) It also made my skin look rather grey and ashy looking. The consistency of the foundation is liquidy and very watery. The colour match wasn't terrible for me, but it was for sure too ashy looking on my skin. Three hours into wearing this foundation was fine and my oils were not peaking through.

(I have not altered this photo at all and this was taken in natural daylight about 3 hours into wear. Keep in mind that I was wearing the Marcelle BB Cream underneath the foundation.)

Shortly after that photo was taken, I was an oily mess and during the ninth hour, I was honestly done with this foundation because my oils were out of control! I blotted my face with one blotting paper and I should have gone in with a second. I did not touch-up with powder throughout the day and it wore terribly on my oily skin. Hour number nine was definitely pushing it and if you are someone who works long days, don't even think about purchasing this product especially if you tend to get very oily throughout the day like myself.

Is It Worth The Money?
This would be a great product for someone with dull skin that wants to brighten up their skin and for someone that does not have oily skin already. This is definitely a lightweight, dewy foundation that you can build up to a medium coverage at most. Also, before I even applied this onto my face, I swatched in onto my hand and I noticed that there was a scent to this foundation. After I applied it onto my skin, I could still smell the scent which did bother me in the long run.

For the price and just the fact alone that you aren't even getting 1 oz of product, I would not recommend this foundation and if you are sensitive to fragrances of any sort, stay clear of this foundation! If you are oily like me, this is not a product for you and this is definitely not for all skin types like the claim suggests! I will definitely mix it into my other foundation using a drop but I will not use it all over my face again.

I want to try the Sonia Kashuk Soft Focus Satin Matte Foundation next because I have heard great things about it!

Update: Target no longer sells Sonia Kashuk makeup.

Until next time,

Pranava Beauty - Serenity Charity Bracelet by Carli Bybel

Hey everyone! Carli Bybel recently launched Pranava Beauty which is a website where you can see her latest projects as well as find out more about the WAH Foundation which I will expand on further down into the post. I am all about supporting a good cause and I definitely had to purchase the beautiful Serenity Charity Bracelet!

The Charity Bracelets
Carli came out with 4 gorgeous bracelets that all have a meaning behind them and each piece includes a real semi-precious stone. They are gold plated and they look great stacked (which you can see on Carli on the Pranava Beauty website.) They are limited edition and if you are thinking about getting one, I suggest that you do so before they are all gone! The best thing is that 100% of the profits will be donated to help bring girls to school in Cambodia and the goal is to raise $100,000 which she definitely surpassed!

Serenity
I chose Serenity after viewing all of the other bracelets for several reasons. Green is my absolute favourite colour and I was instantly drawn to the jade stone. I have taken this directly from the website and you can read more about it on Pranava Beauty: "It is a protective stone, which will keep the wearer from harm and brings harmony into your life. Jade brings good luck and friendship." That  definitely stood out to me and ultimately helped me make my decision. This bracelet will match just about every single outfit and the gold will really compliment a nice tan! It was also packaged well in a white branded box with some removable cushion for the bracelet.

Bracelet Details
I have very small wrists in general and most of the time, I cannot wear bangles because they will slide right off my wrist. This bracelet comes with a lobster clasp that helps you adjust the size of your bracelet to your liking. The bracelet measures 7" in length and has a 2" extender. This is a very well constructed piece and it is very delicate. This sits closer to my hand for the reason that I just mentioned and I do wear my bracelet on the first link which is the smallest that it can go. The Om symbol hangs down and it placed on a gold circle which is a stunning detail.

There is a rhinestone crystal beside the word 'serenity' and the brown fabric is braided into three appearing that it will not fray. There are 4 circular gold accents on either side of the jade stone which is a detail that I think is brilliant! Another great feature is that if you are wearing this bracelet either with a sweater or long sleeves, the links that drop down may get intertwined with the rest of the bracelet at the back but it actually looks fantastic like that! Some bracelets look messy or the wearer may get annoyed when that happens but in this case, it almost looks better that way! I don't know if that was done on purpose or if it was done without knowing, but it looks great either way!

Price & Shipping
Each one of her stunning bracelets retails for $20 USD. On the web site it says, "ships on or before March 27th." My shipping date was on April 6th, but that was fine with me. This is a new project for her and I honestly didn't mind waiting for my gorgeous bracelet to come in the mail. I placed my order on March 21st and I received my bracelet in the mail on April 13th. It took 22 days from when I placed my order until I actually received my bracelet in the mail so keep that in-mind when you are ordering. Especially if you plan on ordering a bracelet as a gift for a loved one.

If you are wondering how much shipping costs, it was $9.95 USD to ship from the USA to Canada. That is the international shipping cost and Pranava ships worldwide. If you live in the USA, then shipping will run you $4.95 USD. Overall, my total come to $29.95 USD and with the conversion rate, it ran me a total of $41.20 CAD. They ship from Los Angeles, California.

WAH Foundation & Pranava Beauty
Carli has been named the Global Ambassador for the WAH Foundation. She also launched the Carli Bybel Scholarship program which will send 120 girls to school in Cambodia which includes: books, tuition, housing and meals for 4 consecutive years. Even though she reached her goal, she still wants to help send as many girls as she can to school in Cambodia and will continue to do so as long as there is still stock available for her bracelets! She recently flew to Cambodia to deliver the check for $100,000 herself in person!

If you are wondering, Pranava means 'cosmic sound' in Sanskrit and is the name for the mantra Om. The great thing is that her products are 100% vegan and 100% gluten-free. She goes more into depth and elaborates more on her Youtube video titled, 'Big Announcement + New Product Launch!' that I have linked for you. She is definitely putting her platform to good use!
I have been watching and supporting Carli for many years. I purchased her first 14 Colour Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette that came out on BH Cosmetics web site that I have an entire review on. Right now, you can pre-order her new palette on the Pranava Beauty website which looks stunning with the marble detail! There are 21 eyeshadows and a gorgeous range of highlighters! Some of the shades are the same as the first palette and some are new. It retails for $19.50 USD and there is a limit of 2 for each customer.

Carli will definitely be coming out with future projects in the upcoming months and there is even a 'perfume' section on her web site that sounds very exciting. I absolutely love my Serenity Charity Bracelet and it is even more fulfilling to know that will my purchase, it has gone to an amazing cause helping a girl across the world in Cambodia, to be able to go to school!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup | Review & Swatches

Hey everyone! I have been hearing so many people rave about the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation for the longest time and I wanted to put it to the test!

Where To Buy & Price
I purchased mine online on the Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutique for $46 CAD. You are getting 1 fl oz/30 ml of product. I originally went into a Sephora and they told me that at that particular location, they do not carry the Estee Lauder line but they do carry the Estee Edit. I thought that was ridiculous and I went to the Beauty Boutique (Shoppers Drug Mart) with no luck of swatching it in-store because they didn't carry it at that location either. Both stores do carry it online and I honestly guessed my shade when ordering it.
Update: It now retails for $52.

Shade Selection
There are 39 shades to choose from on the Beauty Boutique web site and 55 shades on Sephora's web site. They cater to all different undertones whether you are cool, neutral or warm which I really appreciate. I originally was going to purchase a darker shade and I am so glad that I did not because I ended up ordering 1N1 Ivory Nude which is an identical match for me.

How It Wears Throughout The Day & The Claims
This claims to have a 15-hour staying power which keeps you flawless all day long and is natural looking on the skin. It goes on to say that it is oil-free, lightweight and has a medium, buildable coverage. It says that it doesn't change colour and I agree with that because it did not oxidize on the skin when I put it to the test.

My skin is extremely oily all over (not just my t-zone,) and I was very impressed with it! Usually my skin is ridiculously shiny at the end of the day despite my best to control my oils with blotting sheets and translucent powder.

My skin was not half as oily as it normally gets throughout the day and I would have to agree with the claim that it is oil-controlling. I was also in a very humid and hot area to really put this foundation to the test. My foundation held up so well and I was shocked that I wasn't oily on my forehead yet! I would say that the formula was very lightweight, my face looked absolutely flawless and this is my new go-to foundation whenever I have an event or special occasion to attend! I honestly didn't expect it to wear this well throughout the day but it exceeded all of my expectations. It is also fragrance-free, Dermatologist-tested and Ophthalmologist-tested.

Is It Worth The Money?
Without hesitation, I would have to say yes! This is obviously more on the expensive side but it is definitely worth it! The formula is incredible and it helped control my oils throughout the day. I found a shade that matches me perfectly which can be a struggle for most of us. This does not come with a pump but you can obviously purchase one separately and put it on if that is what you prefer.
